The Making of a JVD Claddagh Ring - the Videos and an Apology
Well, it’s 2020 and we’ve been away from the blog page for quite a while. We’ve a number of apologies to make. Three of them, actually.
Firstly, sorry about the delay putting up fresh content.
Secondly, there’s been a problem with our Contact form the last couple of weeks, and we haven’t got your emails. We’re trying to retrieve them, and in the meantime we’ve put our email address on the home page, in case you want to contact us directly.
Thirdly, it occurs to us that while we’ve been talking about the custom, unique, hand-made JVD Claddagh Rings since we launched this site, we haven’t really given you an insight into exactly how the rings are made.
So, to atone for our apology, we’ve posted three videos on our youtube channel that depict the making of the eponymous jewellery. You can see what Joe - the JVD Claddagh Ring creator - does once he’s taken the ring out of the mould and begins the process of customising it for each buyer, until it’s ready to be worn, just like the one in the picture. It’s a platinum ring he’s making in these videos, though It’s the same process for gold or platinum.
Here are the videos:
Sizing the ring for the finger size specified in the order
Applying a whole range of finishing touches
Buffing it to a fine shine
As you can see, even from the final stages in this long process (5 weeks generally, from order to delivery) , it’s a lot of skilled work to take a piece of metal out of the mould and turn it into a work of art, engraving each one with its unique number and the JVD ‘maker’s mark’ hallmark.
We hope you enjoy the videos!
Do you want to see the end product of Joe’s painstaking process, or maybe order one for you or a special person? You can shop the JVD Claddagh Rings range here. Contact us (we’re pretty sure the link works now…) for any questions you might have.
